The University of Malaya invites Going Global 2018 delegates to explore the campus facilities including a UNESCO heritage building and botanical gardens.
Founded in 1905, the University of Malaya is Malaysia’s oldest university. Now with a student body of over 23,500 students, it is ranked one of the top universities in Malaysia. The university is a comprehensive research-intensive institution and has 6 research clusters to promote multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary and transnational research covering a breadth of areas from technology, science, equitable society and humanities.
Datuk Ir. (Dr.) Abdul Rahim Hashim, Vice-Chancellor invites Going Global delegates to a campus tour of the university’s facilities which include:
- The Museum of Asian Art, established in 1954, and The University of Malaya Art Gallery with a priceless collection of artefacts and paintings dating back to the establishment of the University of Malaya in Singapore;
- Dewan Tunku Canselor – one of Malaysia’s most iconic buildings and a UNESCO Heritage Building;
- Rimba Ilmu, or "The Forest of Knowledge", a tropical botanical garden set up in the University of Malaya campus. Established in 1974, the garden occupies an area of 80 hectares, with living collections of over 1,600 species.
Professor Dr. Shaliza Ibrahim, Associate Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) will give a talk on "Newton Ungku Omar Fund - The UM Experience".
How to get there
Delegates will be collected by coach from the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre at 08.30 on Wednesday 2 May 2018.
Light refreshments and lunch will be provided before returning to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in time for Going Global’s opening plenary.
Please be aware that there are only 40 spaces available for this campus tour and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
This campus tour is free of charge to attend for Going Global conference delegates.
