Scheduled to run until August 2024, VET Toolbox caters for investment needs in 11 selected countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the British Council delivering the programme in Ghana and Malawi.
In Ghana, the Agricultural Skills Enhancement Programme is supporting skills development in the agriculture sector in the Northern, North East and Savannah regions. The programme is piloting new approaches, building the capacity of relevant organisations and establishing engagement models to help ensure that training institutes can equip trainees with the skills that agricultural employers need. The programme’s key partners include the Savannah Zone Agricultural Productivity Improvement Project (SAPIP), the Commission for Technical Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), the Agriculture Sector Skill Body (ASSB) and selected vocational training institutes.
Enhancing skills development in the agriculture sector is also the focus of the VET Toolbox programme in Malawi, Enhancing Commercial Farming in the Shire Valley. The programme is working alongside the Shire Valley Transformation Programme to establish and pilot a framework for developing skilled human resources to support agricultural commercialisation. A dialogue mechanism between employers and training providers is being set up to inform the development of needs-based, practical training on an ongoing basis. The project is focused on the Chikwawa and Nsanje Districts of Southern Malawi. Along with the Shire Valley Transformation Programme management team, key partners include the Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational and Educational Training Authority (TEVETA) and selected vocational training institutes.
