The British Council Peru in partnership with CONCYTEC seeks UK expertise to strengthen capacities of researchers and decision makers in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem in Peru.

Requests for proposals are invited from suitably-qualified experts/organisations from the UK for three separate opportunities for short-term training/workshops to take place in Peru in November/December 2020:

  1. Call for UK expert on mentoring and gender in science - Peru; 
  2. Call for consultancy services to design and implement a capacity-building training and toolkit in science, technology and innovation for Peruvian regions, in collaboration with Peru-based institutions and UK universities;
  3. Call for consultancy services to design and deliver capacity building-training to identify and reduce gaps through science, technology and innovation – pilot experience in two Peruvian regions.

Eligibility criteria

For each of the advertised calls, the UK organisation/expert must have solid and proven experience in science, technology and innovation and gender equity in science, technology and innovation.

Proposals for each call should outline clearly:

  • Training content adapted to the country
  • Methodology to be used (synchronous and asynchronous)
  • Team of specialists, clearly outlining their experience with the theme
  • Proposed schedule of delivery  

Knowledge and experience in the context of science, technology and innovation in Latin American countries is a plus.

1. Call for UK expert on mentoring and gender in science - Peru

A call is now open for a short-term opportunity (November - December 2020) for an organisation/expert to engage in the women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) agenda on a global platform starting in Peru.

A UK organisation/expert is sought to design and deliver a first phase of a mentoring training, adapting existing content into modules and proposing a methodology for the online delivery of the training.

The UK organisation/expert will provide technical assistance to train 300-400 Peruvian women and men senior career researchers to develop their skills to be mentors of women researchers who are starting their research career path.

This is part of the technical assistance that the British Council began in Peru in 2019, in partnership with the Committee ProWomen in science, technology and innovation of CONCYTEC, to strengthen capacities of researchers and decision-makers for the promotion of practices and policies that reduce inequalities in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem.

The course should include four training areas within mentoring fundamentals:

  • emotional intelligence
  • communication
  • professional skills
  • diversity.

In addition, it is expected that the selected organisation structures and manages the participation of different speakers that will be invited as part of the training, as well as the logistic with participants.

2. Call for consultancy services to design and implement a capacity building training and toolkit in science, technology and Innovation for Peruvian regions, in collaboration with Peru-based institutions and UK universities

A call is now open for a short-term opportunity (November - December 2020) for an organisation/expert to design and implement a capacity building training and toolkit in science, technology and innovation for Peruvian regions, in collaboration with Peru-based institutions and UK universities.

It is expected that specialists will have relevant experience and track record to engage with the programme in a rapid manner. It is also expected that the selected organisation structures and manages the participation of different speakers that will be invited as part of the training, as well as the logistic with participants.  

This is part of the technical assistance British Council began in Peru in 2018, in partnership with CONCYTEC, to strengthen capacities of researchers and decision makers in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem.

The UK expert/organisation will provide technical assistance to train 50 - 70 science, technology and innovation managers in the ecosystem in the academic, government and business sectors.

The key contributions expected of this work are:

  • Identification and facilitation of multiregional, multisectoral and multiactor collaborative work.
  • After the training, participants will be fully skilled in managing and taking decisions on projects in the area of science, technology and innovation at the level of public policies, research and business.

3. Call for consultancy services to design and deliver capacity building training to identify and reduce gaps through science, technology and innovation – pilot experience in two Peruvian regions

A call is now open for a short-term opportunity (November - December 2020) for an organisation/expert to design and deliver capacity building training to identify and reduce gaps through science, technology and innovation, in collaboration with Peru-based institutions and UK universities.

The consultancy service will support the generation of a reference model to map the actors in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem of that later can be used by CONCYTEC as a reference to implement public policies capable of dynamizing and generating impact, both in closing the gaps in science, technology and innovation as well as in digital transformation and inclusion for regional competitiveness. It´s expected that these specialists will have relevant experience and track record to engage with the programme in a rapid manner.

This is part of the technical assistance British Council began in Peru in 2018, in partnership with CONCYTEC, to strengthen capacities of researchers and decision makers in the Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem.

The UK expert/organisation will provide technical assistance to design and deliver capacity building training on a reference model to map and promote the systemic work among actors in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem – Moquegua and Cajamarca.
