English as an additional language (EAL)

Sharing our expertise in teaching English to support young EAL learners and their teachers

There are more than a million learners of English as an Additional Language (EAL) in UK schools. This has risen by 20% since 2009, making it one of the most significant changes to the school population in recent years.

The British Council EAL Nexus project has the central aim of helping EAL learners access learning and positively engage in schools, in the community and in society, thus promoting intercultural dialogue and social cohesion.  The project is co-financed by the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals and is supported by the Bell Foundation.

Visit the EAL Nexus website to access practical advice and classroom resources, ask questions, engage in discussion and much more.
