Deadline: Friday 15 December 2017
Dates of the visit: Monday 29 January to Friday 2 February 2018.
UK PVC international, Heads of international departments
We invite UK Pro-Vice Chancellors and Heads of International departments looking to develop relationships with Croatian and Slovenian universities to join this higher education delegation. Areas for potential partnerships include mobility, internationalisation of STEM, quality assurance and TNE.
Croatia: The government is looking to internationalise their HE sector to increase the quality of education and develop stronger scientific research. The government are supporting Croatian universities with a £2.2M fund focused on STEM to enable stronger international collaboration, programme delivery in foreign languages and increasing their attractiveness to international students and faculty staff.
Slovenia: The national HE 2020 strategy was passed in summer 2016. Internationalisation priorities are: attracting more overseas students by offering programmes in English, increasing the quality of teaching, increase of the number of academic staff and researcher exchanges.
The UK would like to be considered as a partner in this internationalisation process, with its high quality provision and a leading reputation for higher education and research. With the triggering of Article 50 there is an urgency to consider new models of engagement with EU countries for partnering in study programmes and research. Universities in Croatia and neighbouring Slovenia provide opportunities for partnership, shared programmes and other TNE models.
The visit will consist of a mix of meetings with relevant ministry officials, institutional visits with travel to Zagreb and Ljubljana.
There will also be a visit to Rijeka - 2020 European Capital of Culture with the focus on the urban regeneration, social development and the relationship between the cities and universities.
