UK PVC international, Heads of international departments
We invite UK Pro-Vice Chancellors and Heads of International departments to join this delegation led by Professor Jo Beall, Director Education and Society, British Council, and Vivienne Stern, Director, Universities UK International. UK insitutions looking to explore and develop new relationships with Croatian and Slovenian universities will have the opportunity to forge potential partnerships under the themes of internationalisation in STEM subjects, quality assurance and TNE.
The Ministries of Science and Education in Croatia and Slovenia have put the internationalisation of Higher Education as high priority in their programmes.
The Croatian Ministry of Science and Education’s action plan aims to increase incoming and outgoing mobility of students and teachers; increase number of courses offered by the Croatian universities in foreign languages and increase number of joint studies with European and world universities. The Ministry of Science and Education is programming the EU funds (especially European Social Fuds) to enable HE to develop links and projects aimed at increased internationalisation.
In addition, there is a strong plan to increase competiveness of the science sector with focus on links of science and economy. One of the main measures is the creation of research centres of excellence to gather and crosslink the best scientists focused on contemporary research topics at a national level and international level.
The Slovene National Higher Education Programme 2011-2020 sets as priorities the attraction of overseas students by offering programmes in English, increasing the quality of teaching in Universities, increasing the number of professor and researcher exchanges, and an ambition to have at least 10% of foreign students enrolled into EMI programmes in Slovenia by 2020.
The visit will consist of a mix of meetings with relevant ministry officials, institutional visits with travel to Zagreb and Ljubljana. There will also be a visit to Rijeka - 2020 European Capital of Culture with the focus on the urban regeneration, social development and the relationship between the cities and universities.
The fee of GBP 1100 per delegate includes the following:
- Accommodation in Croatia and Slovenia for 4 nights (Breakfast included in 3/4 star hotels)
- Cost of lunch and snacks during the visits (3 days)
