Call for applications

Key dates:

Deadline: 12 May 2014

About this opportunity:

British Council India invites expressions of interest from UK universities to host post graduate students and staff who are part of the Study Abroad Programme funded by the Tamil Nadu Government (India).

The Programme, which is in its second year, is supported by the British Council through an agreement signed with the Tamil Nadu Government in December 2012. As per the agreement, the Tamil Nadu government will fund 25 postgraduate students in Physical, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Business, Computer Sciences, IT and Management from public-funded state universities to spend one semester at an UK university starting in September 2014. In addition, the Tamil Nadu Government will also fund five faculty members to spend a semester in the UK University either doing a continuous professional development, a faculty development programme or a short research project.

Together with the Tamil Nadu government we will select five UK universities to be part of the programme and host five students and a faculty member each. Criteria:

  • suitability of post graduate courses offered in the specified subjects
  • reputation of the university in teaching
  • international student experience and commitment to engage, mentor and collaborate with the visiting faculty member from Tamil Nadu
  • course fee – ideally not more than £5,000 for a semester

Students will be selected on academic merit but as levels of English are not very high the universities’ eligibility criteria for admission needs to be between 5.5-6.5 IELTS.
