Request for proposals for research partner
Deadline for proposals: Monday 15 December 2015
Decisions on proposals: Thursday 15 January 2015
British Council and CfBT Education Trust (CfBT) are interested in the development of English as a medium of instruction in non-anglophone contexts at primary, secondary and tertiary education worldwide. We wish to partner with an organisation, for example a university department, with educational research capability and an established interest in this specific area.
The successfully appointed partner will be responsible for the project methodology design, implementing the data collection, and delivering both interim and final report findings that describe the research process and answer the agreed research questions.
CfBT and the British Council will be responsible for the dissemination of the research report and findings. CfBT and the British Council will make a contribution to the costs of the research. The appointed research partner is expected to offer either a cash or in-kind contribution to the project.
The research is an investigation into the use of English as the Medium of Instruction (EMI) learning environments in a developing country context. The work will examine the extent to which access to an EMI higher education is restricted for disadvantaged groups in developing country contexts as well as the extent to which it promises a means of increasing the opportunities for social mobility, future economic prosperity and a more meritocratic society. This proposed research will contribute useful knowledge to an under-researched area and build upon recent work the field.
