Each participating team is required to construct a small-scale model of a building that can withstand the simulated earthquakes generated by a shaking table.

Since 2001, this programme has attracted hundreds of Taiwanese and international secondary, university and graduate students each year in Taiwan.

IDEERS 2014 is supported by the British Council in Taiwan and the University of Bristol, and jointly organised by the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARL), the National Centre for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE),and the National Science and Technology Centre for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) in Taiwan. The competition and conference will be held in Taiwan.

All international participants will have the opportunity to visit the 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan, in the geographical center of Taiwan.
