We are looking for provider(s) from the UK with experience in quality assurance and graduate employability to develop and deliver two bespoke workshops in Nur-Sultan and/or Almaty, Kazakhstan. They will also provide a follow-up mentorship and support to six projects which will be developed as a result of the workshops and receive a funding grant from the British Council.

We are happy to consider applications from one provider to deliver either one or both workshops, in accordance with their sphere of expertise.

Background

The purpose of this programme is to improve graduate employability through supporting higher education reform across Kazakhstan over a three-year period (19/20 – 21/22).

These outcomes will be delivered through three agreed strands:

1.Quality assurance in teaching

Activity: A workshop for university leaders in quality assurance, to be developed and delivered by a UK partner. This workshop will use agile approaches, providing participants with knowledge and skills and helping participants to identify and brainstorm current challenges and design further interventions. Participants will be encouraged to create cross-university teams and develop projects. The best projects developed by workshop participants will be awarded British Council grants on a competitive basis to implement their projects.

2.Aligning graduate outcomes to the labour market

Activity: We will organize a workshop for university career centres, key employers, National Chamber of Entrepreneurs and other stakeholders, which will be delivered by a UK partner. This workshop will use agile approaches, providing participants with knowledge and skills, and helping participants to identify and brainstorm current challenges and design further interventions. Participants will be encouraged to create cross-university teams and develop projects. The best projects developed by workshop participants will be awarded British Council grants on a competitive basis to implement their projects.

Gender equality and leadership will be cross cutting themes.

In the first year, we plan to achieve the following direct impact:

  • to improve the knowledge of at least 15 university leaders from Kazakhstan in quality assurance
  • to improve the knowledge of at least 15 university leaders from Kazakhstan in graduate employability
  • to support six new projects supported by grants

Activities for the 2nd and 3rd years will be planned following analysis of the 1st year activities.

By the end of the 3rd year, we will have delivered set of activities that were identified by research and higher education sector leaders. This will help us ensure the relevance of our intervention to challenges and priorities of universities, as well as maximum cost-impact ratio.
