The UK's former Minister of Universities and Science, Rt. Hon David Willetts, gave an exclusive interview to the British Council ahead of his session at Going Global 2015.

Speaking on university rankings, he voiced concerns that the quality of the student experience and teaching are often overlooked in favour of prior achievements and excellence in research. He pointed out that as higher education becomes more international, rankings are having ever increasing influence, and the metrics for these other aspects may not yet be good enough.

David Willetts also spoke on the funding reforms he was responsible for as the UK’s Minister for Universities and Science from 2010 – 2014, claiming they put students in the 'driving seat' as consumers, and are the best model for funding higher education when public spending is down.

Rt. Hon David Willetts will be speaking at Going Global 2015 in a session that explores different methods for funding higher education.
