Roundtable on UK-Pakistan 'Education/Knowledge' Cities

Thursday 23 January 2014 -
15:30 to 17:00
Venue, British Academy, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London

Closed event

This roundtable event will bring together a number of Ministers for Education from Pakistan with representatives from the UK universities will discuss the development of ‘Education/Knowledge Cities in Pakistan.

This discussion will build on the recent MOUs that British Council Pakistan has signed with the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Punjab. Under these MOUs, British Council will provide technical support/advice in designing the interventions for the Education City /Knowledge City projects for both regions.

With Pakistan at the bottom of the Innovation and Competiveness Indices, local governments approached British Council for advice and assistance in developing an ‘area of facilities’ based on the UK Technology Park model and Oxbridge style Knowledge Cities.  These zones would be created in Pakistan’s cities and offer support not just for science and technology, but for humanities, education and creative industries. This roundtable discussion will help to identify the process and resources and also align the need for a structured mapping and scoping study to assess geo-physical, socio-economic and cultural aspects for planning such mega projects.

Event aims and objectives

The purpose of this roundtable is to discuss how the British Council and higher education institutions in the UK sector can identify and bring relevant world class expertise to the Education City Project and help to promote this in the UK.
