Drawing words
An exhibition curated by Lauren Child

Celebrating illustration as an art form for all ages
The Drawing Words exhibition brings together some of the most exciting children's book illustration to come out of the UK in recent years.
While Peter Rabbit, Paddington Bear and Winnie the Pooh are universally recognised and demonstrate the rich history of children’s book illustration in the UK, Drawing Words looks to the future.
The ten illustrators showcased here have been selected for their distinctly personal and unique work, to offer a snapshot of the vibrant work being produced today.
Lauren Child talks about her thinking behind the exhibition.
The exhibition is curated by award-winning artist, writer and the 2017-2019 UK Children’s Laureate, Lauren Child, and designed by the innovative Etcetera Studio with graphic design by Regular Practice.

Drawing Words can travel anywhere in the world, thanks to movable, scalable display panels and a wealth of digital resources available to download.
The exhibition has already been translated into four different languages and shown in over ten different countries around the world, with an accompanying educational programme and visits by many of the illustrators involved.
It was first on display in London at the British Council head office, and then in 2019 at Seven Stories, the National Centre for Children’s Books, based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Exhibition information and resources are available on the British Council Literature website.
