Sheffield has a long history and rich tradition of producing some of the best theatre in the UK.

Home to the Sheffield Theatres complex, acclaimed experimental theatre company Forced Entertainment, progressive collective Third Angel, and leading Black British theatre company Eclipse to name a few, theatre and performance artists from Sheffield have been making waves in the national and international theatre landscape for decades.

Forced Entertainment

Sheffield-based touring theatre company Forced Entertainment have been performing their work throughout the UK and across the world since 1984. The company comprises a group of six performers who have been working together to push the boundaries of the theatrical form since the company’s inception, led by Artistic Director Tim Etchells.

Attracting international critical acclaim for their innovative and often challenging and provocative works, Forced Entertainment are one of the most highly-regarded British theatre companies in the world. Their disruptive, nonconformist approach to theatre making has helped pave the way for some of the most exciting and experimental developments in the recent history of British and international theatre practice.

Complete Works: Table Top Shakespeare

A salt and pepper pot for the king and queen. A ruler for the prince. A spoon for the servant. Lighter fluid for the Innkeeper. A water bottle for the messenger...

Complete Works: Table Top Shakespeare, Forced Entertainment’s current project, presents condensed versions of every play Shakespeare has ever written, comically and intimately retelling them using a collection of everyday objects on the ‘stage’ of a table top. The idea sprung from the company’s long-held obsession with exploring ways of using language alone to conjure extraordinary scenes, images and narratives.

In August 2016, Forced Entertainment will be streaming a series of live performances of Table Top Shakespeare from Theaterfestival Basel in Germany. Watch this space for more news on how to tune in live.
