The International English Language Testing System. IELTS is the world’s proven English language test, and a way to demonstrate your English language skills. IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

IELTS is accepted by most UK, Australian, Canadian , New Zealand and European academic institutions. In the United States it is increasingly gaining recognition as an alternative to the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) test.
