TEACHER PROFILES

ANDREA
I am an Academic Services Manager and have been working at the British Council in Taipei since 2003. I have a joint Masters degree in English and History, a CELTA teaching qualification and a Masters degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have previously taught English in Ukraine, Japan and Scotland and have over ten years experience in teaching Young Learners, Adults, Business English and Cambridge ESOL exam preparation – in particular IELTS and the Young Learner exams. When I’m not working I like sitting in hot springs and eating out lots!

RACHAEL
After gaining a BA (Hons) degree in Philosophy and Sociology from Middlesex University, I completed the RSA CELTA teaching course in London. Prior to teaching in Taiwan, I also taught for three and a half years in China. I have a solid background in teaching both adults and young learners at all levels. I also have a grounding in IELTS preparation, E.S.P. (English for Specific Purposes) and Business English.

KEN
I’ve been a teacher at the British Council Taipei for four years, teaching both adults and young learners. I first   worked   for the British Council in Hong Kong in 1981 and got my CTEFLA and DTEFLA teaching qualifications there. After seven years in Hong Kong, I joined the British Council in Tokyo for three years before moving to New Zealand where I taught for a variety of language schools. I have also worked as a CELTA trainer in Australasia. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking and discovering Taiwan on foot and by rail.

HARRY
Having studied and worked in Japan in the mid 90s, I came to Taiwan in 1999. Since then I have worked closely with Cambridge ESOL in exam preparation and preparing students for study in the UK. I have been with British Council Taipei since 2004, and am currently working on course design, as well as teaching on a wide range of courses. I have both a CELTA and DELTA teaching qualification.

ADAM
I have been with the British Council since March 2007. I was educated at Sheffield Hallam University and Nottingham University and hold a degree in English literature. I have been a teacher since 1996 and have two teaching qualifications - a CELTA and a PGCE. Besides Taiwan, I have taught in the Czech Republic and have been a high school teacher in the UK. I have varied teaching experience with all kinds of students from very young learners to adults and corporate clients.

BEN
After graduating with a LLB Law (Hons) degree from Manchester Metropolitan University, I went on to Salford University where I taught on postgraduate courses. I gained a TEFL teaching qualification before teaching in India; on my return to the UK I completed a CELTA. I also taught English in the UK prior to coming to Taiwan. In my spare time I like playing music, cooking, travelling and reading.

JO
I have been working at the British Council since 2008. At university I gained a BA in English Literature and Cultural History and have a CELTA teaching qualification. Prior to coming to Taiwan I taught in Poland and Spain. I have been in Taiwan since 2004 and love it here. In my free time I do a variety of sports, read and study.

STEVEN
I have over ten years experience as a teacher / teacher trainer. During this time I have worked in a number of different educational institutes in many different countries including universities in Sweden, Japan, Oman and England. I have a CELTA teaching qualification as well as an Undergraduate degree in Humanities and a Masters Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). As a health conscious individual, I enjoy practicing and teaching Yoga, Tai Chi and Reiki in my free time
