LEVEL AND COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?

This course is for suitable for you if who are already a competent user of English. Our IELTS preparation courses aim to develop your language skills specifically for the IELTS test to help you achieve the best possible score in the test.

COURSE CONTENT CONTENT (ACADEMIC MODULE)

During the course you will:

  • learn how to interpret and describe graphs in writing
  • learn how to write a discursive or opinion essay
  • learn how to read and interpret academic texts
  • learn how to identify specific information and infer point of view in written texts
  • take part in discussions and practise the speaking skills required in the IELTS test
  • learn how to take accurate notes from a spoken text or dialogue
  • listen to a variety of spoken text types of the kind used in IELTS tests.

During the course you will study:

  • areas of grammar where you have weaknesses
  • the details of the appropriate format of IELTS
  • summarising, organising and describing information
  • identifying information, opinion, attitude
  • coherence and cohesion in writing and speaking
  • identifying main and subordinate ideas in written texts.

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • write appropriate text types accurately and in correct register
  • answer comprehension questions on written texts as found in the IELTS test
  • perform with confidence in the oral component of the test
  • understand English spoken by native speakers at natural speed and answer questions as required by the examination.

COURSE MATERIALS

We link all our courses to Council of Europe Framework and use the Focus on IELTS course book series (Longman). You will receive the teacher’s presentation at the end of each lesson so that you can review this at home before the next lesson.
