Starting this year the BTCO is offering a joint scholarship with the Delta Electronics Foundation specifically targeted at those who plan to make a contribution to tackling environmental issues in Taiwan, in particular climate change. Highlights of British Council Taipei in 2006/7

  • Handled over 55,000 front of house enquiries about Britain, including over 11,000 education inquiries, 35,000 Exams & English course enquiries, and 9000 general enquiries.   
  • Attracted over 38,000 visitors per month to the British Council website connecting people to information about the UK.
  • Attracted around 25,000 visitors to Education UK exhibitions leading to 9,653 Taiwanese students studying in the UK.
  • The Education UK Exhibition website has over 8,000 registered users.
  • Registered around 3,500 UK Alumni in the BRAIN database (British Alumni Interactive Network).
  • Coordinated with the British Trade and Cultural Office (BTCO) to provide 5 scholarships to postgraduate Taiwanese students worth approximately NTD 8 million.
  • Showcased British arts to over 117,000 people in 8 projects including performances, exhibitions and workshops.
  • Showcased UK education and science to an audience of over 120,000 through museum research, science exhibition and science education competition.
  • Created opportunities through administering over 8,000 UK exams.
  • Created opportunities for over 2,500 individuals and strengthened the English capacity of many organisations by delivering high quality, effective English language training courses.
  • Showcased UK English language teaching through training programmes and workshops in collaboration with local authorities and government that reached over 2,000 Taiwanese English teachers.
