WORKSHOPS AND SHORT COURSES

In line with the Taiwan government's initiatives in English education, British Council, Taipei has been working in close collaboration with local City and County governments to deliver professional English training programmes to local school Principals and English teachers!!

Alongside the collaboration with local education authorities, in recent years we have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Taiwan's Ministry of Education in the promotion of English Language Teaching. We have worked very closely with the MOE in delivering training courses for their staff in Workplace English and also facilitated MOE projects for sending teachers to the UK to undertake further study and trainings.

Over the past few years, from ELT workshops, seminars, conferences to full-time training programmes, we have successfully conducted more than 35 major ELT events bringing UK expertise, best practices and examples to more than 3500 teachers and parents in Taiwan.

In January 2011, under the Access English project, Kaohsiung City Government Bureau of Education and British Council Taipei launched an online staffroom called ‘Transforming the Teaching of English in Taiwan’. The website not only contains free resources from the British Council’s LearnEnglish Kids, LearnEnglish Central, Teaching English and LearnEnglish Podcasts websites that are mapped to Taiwan’s national curriculum guidelines and competency stages, but also professional development resources. We hope that through this tailor-made learning platform, the teaching and learning of English will improve greatly for primary and secondary English teachers, parents and learners in Taiwan.
