The project aims to raise young people’s awareness of citizenship issues at the local, national and global levels, to develop their intercultural competence with a focus on language and communication for democratic citizenship, and increase their confidence in taking appropriate action for the protection of democratic principles and practices within their communities.
The project supports young people’s personal and professional development with a view to becoming active and responsible members of the community and the wider society through working with instructional materials on citizenship education.
The authors are a group of 8 Romanian teachers with experience in materials design and teacher training in human rights, citizenship and language education. They work under the guidance of a UK consultant.
The two sets of materials for use in educational classes (ore de consiliere si orientare) at upper secondary level have been published in December 2007.

Activities in the handbook are based on Articles in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The set of materials include guidelines for the development of communication and language competences in a variety of democratic citizenship contexts.
