The project is a partnership between British Council and Kultur Kontakt-Austria.
Its design and outputs are outlined in the context of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue – 2008 and the European Year for Creativity and Innovation – 2009.
Language learning is a framework for intercultural dialogue and understanding. Language learners try to break language barriers to engage actively with the target culture and develop democratic citizenship competences.
The participants are teachers from schools located in six regions of Romania: Bucharest, Constanta, Iasi, Brasov, Braila and Odorheiu Secuiesc. A school team is made up of teachers of English, German and Romanian and their students.
The teams identify context-relevant topics for their inter-language projects and then develop them in cooperation. Possible working areas include: perception of one’s own culture and of the target culture in the context of language learning, identity building, intercultural learning and school ethos and multilingualism – linking schools with communities
