Would you like to pursue your studies and your career? Then IELTS is the test you are looking for. IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication.

IELTS conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment. It covers the four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking. There are two modules to choose from, the Academic (required by universities) and the general (mainly used for immigration to English speaking countries)

WHERE IS IELTS RECOGNISED?

The test is recognised by universities and employers throughout the world, including the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand.

IELTS is now widely accepted in the USA, where it is recognised as an alternative to the TOEFL test. Please consult the recognition list.

IELTS is a requirement for MBAs and Erasmus Mundus Masters in Portugal such as the University of Catolica where either the TOEFL or IELTS tests are a condition of entry. It is recognised by professional bodies such as banks and large multinational companies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.

IELTS is jointly managed by the British Council, University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) and IDP:IELTS Australia. It is not recommended for candidates under the age of 16.

WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE TEST BE?

You can take the IELTS test in Porto, Lisbon or Coimbra.

Please note that places are limited and sessions may become full before the deadline .

You should download the latest 'Candidate application form' from the 'Downloads' section of the IELTS site. Complete the form, sign it with your usual signature (i.e., the one on your ID card or passport - this will be proof of identity later), and post it or take it to our centre in Lisbon, Porto or Coimbra. Post the form to your nearest Centre, together with:

• two passport sized photos, signed on the back
• a photocopy of your ID card or passport, and
• a cheque made payable to 'British Council'.

If you visit our centres you can also pay by cash or Multibanco (Note: no Multibanco in Porto).
