Call for Illustrators and Creative Writers in English and Arabic
Deadline for submissions: 4 March 2012

To celebrate Dickens’s bicentenary, British Council, in partnership with Abu Dhabi International Book Fair and The Domino, has launched ‘Sketches by Boz’ - a global celebration of the significant contribution of the work of Charles Dickens.

The competition

British Council is inviting aspiring creative writers and illustrators to produce original pieces of work inspired by the writings of Charles Dickens.

Judging Process

Your work will be judged on two levels:

  • by online voting on Facebook; shortlisted entries will be uploaded on a dedicated Facebook page for a given period
  • by a panel of established UK and Arab creative writers and illustrators attending Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2012.

Eligibility

  • Must be resident of the UAE
  • Must fall into one of the following age groups: (14 - 17 years old) and (18 years and above).

Prizes

  • All winners will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive creative writing and illustration workshops by esteemed authors and illustrators from the UK.
  • Jury prize for creative writing winners: Kindle.
  • Jury prize for illustrators: Tablets.
  • Audience Award for most popular entry on Facebook: Dickens’ bicentenary collection of books and films.

Submission Process

  • Fill out the submission form and email to britishcouncil@thedomino.org by 4 March 2012
  • Attach your submission – written work or illustration; for illustrations, please submit the image of your finished work in JPG or PDF format, with details of size and medium.
