‘Springboard is approaching ‘her’ 21st birthday in 2010. Now ‘she’ has an amazing variety of diverse new, fresh, energetic, wise Springboard ‘aunties’ i.e. Springboard trainers across the Middle East. They will take her now to new places, reach new women and help these women to change their lives for the better.’
These were Jenny Daisley, joint Chief Executive Officer of the award winning UK Springboard Consultancy’s concluding comments to the first British Council Springboard Licensing Course for the Middle East, held in Beirut (12 - 20 July 2009)
At the Conference 30 women from organisations across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Yemen, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman qualified as Springboard-licensed Trainers to deliver holistic self-development courses that have been specifically adapted for the needs of women in the Middle East.
Theory and practical exercises during the Conference ensured that these new trainers have a thorough knowledge of the Springboard Programme and meet The Springboard Consultancy’s high standards for training.
Participants represented organisations like Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, Institute of Administrative Development in Qatar and Nahda Society in KSA. They will now be running self-development programmes inside their organisations during 2009/10.
This huge expansion in the number of qualified Springboard trainers in the region means that many more women in organisations, communities and societies across the Middle East will be able to benefit from the Springboard women’s development programme.
Since its introduction in Saudi Arabia in 2004 Springboard has been changing women’s lives and successfully contributing to the development of women’s role in social and economic life.
This conference was the first activity in the expanded Springboard regional project that is managed by the British Council in the Middle East. The project aims to build a network of 20,000 Springboard alumni by 2012 and improve understanding between women in the Middle East and the UK.
