Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)

CUHK was founded in 1963, becoming the second university to be established in Hong Kong. It is a comprehensive research university comprising a School of Law and seven faculties: arts, business administration, education, engineering, medicine, science, and social science. The total student population is 19,000. English, Cantonese and Putonghua are used for teaching. The campus is located in a green location in the New Territories. There are train and bus connections to the city, and the border with Mainland China is within easy reach.

CUHK has been involved in student exchanges since its earliest days and has a large, worldwide network of partner institutions. Initial contact can be made through the Office of Academic Links. Prospective students can look at the online course timetable for an indication of current programmes and their language of instruction. Courses in the faculties of medicine and education and School of Law are not open to international exchange students.

Students can pursue their own major and minor studies and there are also opportunities to take classes (in English) to further their knowledge of China and Asia. Credit-bearing Cantonese and Putonghua language classes at different levels are available.

International students live on campus and usually share rooms with local students. The university operates a buddy system, and arranges orientation and social activities for incoming overseas students.
