CityU has a student enrolment of around 26,000, including on publicly funded and self-supporting programmes, and is located in the district of Kowloon Tong in Kowloon. It comprises five faculties/schools: business, creative media, humanities and social sciences, law, and science and engineering.
The university has links with more than 120 overseas and Mainland China institutions, covering 28 countries and regions. Support for overseas students is provided by the Mainland and External Affairs Office.
Most courses at the university are open to international students, although some may be subject to special arrangements. Business programmes are particularly popular with international students. There is a special credit-bearing Chinese civilisation course, which is available in English and tailor-made for international students. Credit-bearing Putonghua and Cantonese language courses are also offered.
The project-based training emphasised at CityU encourages interaction between students. In addition, there is a buddy system, with students matched with local or Mainland China students, and an induction programme. The university also arranges small discussion sessions, where non-local students introduce their home university or country to local students. Shared accommodation is available on campus. Students can choose either a local or international roommate.
