British Council English Language Development projects support the teaching and learning of English by working with the English Teachers’ Association of Georgia (ETAG).
On-going British Council projects in English Teaching include:

English Teachers’ Association of Georgia: Development of a network of ETAG branch offices, and resource / training centres. Nine networked centres established in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Zugdidi, Poti, Telavi, Gori, Rustavi and Akhaltsikhe |

In-service teacher training: Making available to ETAG members in all centres a wide range of short courses. Four 40-hour courses developed so far providing training for over 600 teachers. Current plans under the ETAG partnership include the production of a 5th in-service course in Business English, to be piloted in January 07. |

Support for young teachers: A special training course for newly qualified teachers (NQTs) soon to be finalized under a joint project with British Council offices in Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Azerbaijan. |

Training for future teachers: In collaboration with university pedagogical faculties, a new pre-service training course to be piloted as from October 06. |

 |
School textbooks: Professional guidance for writing teams engaged in the design and production of English language textbooks for Georgian schools, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. |

 |
•Management of client-funded English courses: 25 selected journalists and media workers currently on an 18-month English Language course funded by BP. |
