What does the British Council Placement Service do for me?
The British Council Placement Service helps students with both -making the final decision and the application process. We also assist you with visa papers locally and travel arrangements once they have decided to study in the UK, and is run on a cost covering basis.
Where do I learn in Britain?
You will do your course at any school accredited by the “English in Britain” Accreditation Scheme in any place in Britain.
How long does the course last?
The English language course can last from two weeks to two years.
Where can I stay / live in Britain?
You can stay with a host family or at a students residence, there are school-owned students residences that are very high quality and are usually twice more expensive than families and there are international student hostels that are not cheaper than families but may greatly vary in quality.
When can I join the school?
You can start your courses any Monday all the year round or for specific courses there are set start dates.
Are there any age restrictions?
No age restrictions. You can study at any age if you can duly motivate the need for studying English.
How long does a placement process take?
Approximately four weeks from your first appointment with the placement coordinator.
How do I pay?
As soon as we receive an invoice from the school you have chosen you should make your own arrangements to transfer the money. Advice will be provided on the possibilities available.
Is there any possibility to get my money back in case I want to curtail my studies or change schools?
Most schools cannot reimburse tuition fees. However in some cases if long enough notice is given it is possible to get back 50% of your money.
What kind of language courses can I take?
You can take a course in General English, English for Examinations (FCE, CAE, TOEFL, IELTS, etc.), ESP (English for Specific Purposes, e.g. business, law, etc.) or Teacher Training.
How intensive is the course?
From 15 to 40 hours a week. You won't get a student visa for less than a 15-hour load.
How do I know that I will be put into the group of appropriate level?
You will be tested on the first day of your course and grouped according to the test results.
Will I be given a certificate at the end of the course?
You will receive your Course Certificate provided that you have attended 80 to 95% of your lessons (varies in different schools).
What is the method of studies and the group size?
Group size is 6 to 16 students in different school on different courses. If you have certain preferences you should tell us and we will select a school with the requested group size for you. One-to-one teaching is also an option readily available for you in all schools. Various games, role-play, etc. combined with contemporary course books and different self study facilities will ensure your academic success.
What kind of social activities does the school provide?
Activities are an important part of your course. These are cultural trips, guided tours, sightseeings, excursions, shopping trips, barbeque and other socila parties, etc. (costs for some of them are incorporated into your tuition fee).
Will I be met at the airport?
You will be met and escorted from the airport to the place of your destination if you have requested additional service in advance.
Do I need insurance?
It is recommended to take out travel medical insurance to be covered from accident and illness.
