The British Council in partnership with the World Bank country office announces an essay competition which aims to increase public awareness of ecological problems, address the issues of economic growth, reform & development and also to encourage youth to become a more active agent for future development.
Environmental problems nowadays draw more and more public attention and demand enhanced political action worldwide.
The climate is changing. This will affect the sea level, biodiversity and many aspects of human social and economic activities. Therefore the climate change demands urgent attention by decision makers and the public worldwide.
Essays to be submitted shall cover the following themes:
- "Future of the World - Economic Development Versus Environment Security"
- "Three Top World Ecological Challenges Today"
- "Think Globally, Act Locally – Youth Participation in Environment/Climate Security"
The Essay Competition is open to all individuals, students and non-students between 16 and 25 years old.
- First place - Laptop
- Second place - Pocket Computer
- Third place - iPod Music Player
- One-month Internship Opportunity at World Bank country office for Qualifying Winner
The submission process for the Essay Competition is entirely Internet-based.
Essays shall be submitted to the following email address: competition@britishcouncil.az
- Submissions will be accepted till March 23, 2008.
- Each participant can only submit an essay on one of the three proposed themes.
- Participants must be between 16 and 25 years of age.
- Essays should not exceed 2000 words and should be written in English, Russian or Azerbaijani.
- All essays must be original. No previously published material will be accepted. Any form of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification. Please note that all essays will be screened with specialized software to verify plagiarism.
- The British Council and World Bank reserve the right to publish and/or to make available to the public the winning essays.
- The decision of the Jury is final and is not subject to an appeal.
