2012/13 Chevening Scholarships Programme
A prestigious award to fund your UK postgraduate studies

The Chevening Scholarships programme for 2012-13 is now open for applications from Azerbaijan. All applications must be submitted online through E-Chevening by 27 January 2012.

Chevening scholarships are awarded for one year Master degrees starting in September 2012 at British universities and other professional institutions. Their objective is to promote the UK's longer term political, economic and commercial interests and to support diplomacy by building understanding and goodwill.

Applicants are encouraged to apply for courses in line with the UK’s objectives for Azerbaijan, which include, but are not exclusive to:

International Relations
International Security
International Law
Human Rights
Conflict Resolution
Journalism
Public policy and good governance
NGO Management

What costs are covered by a Chevening scholarship?

A full scholarship will cover the cost for a UK visa, a return air ticket to the UK, all tuition fees (not exceeding £12,000 per year), and a monthly stipend and allowances.

Who can apply?

The Chevening programme is open to Azerbaijani nationals. We offer scholarships to individuals from the private and public sectors and from non-governmental organisations. We encourage applications from all regions of Azerbaijan.

Successful applicants must already hold a higher education diploma, have professional work experience of at least 3 years; have not already lived or studied outside Azerbaijan for an extended period of time and have a good command of English.

Application process

The closing date for applications is 27 January 2012. Candidates should complete the online application forms in full. Incomplete forms will be rejected. If you are shortlisted for an interview you will need to submit hard copies of the following papers to the British Council.

copies of relevant academic certificates and transcripts, with certified English translations
two (2) letters of reference (both of which should be professional or academic), with certified translations into English
copies of IELTS or TOEFL report forms  (if available)
a completed medical declaration form (after the interview)
a copy of an offer letter from a UK university (if available)

Selection procedure

The British Embassy and British Council in Azerbaijan will sift application forms and draw up a shortlist of candidates. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

Indicative timeline for applications:

27 January 2012

deadline for completion online application

6-10 February 2012

applications are reviewed and shortlisted candidates contacted for interviews

17 February 2012

submission of required documents by shortlisted applicants

22-24 February 2012

provisional dates for interviews

1 March 2012

successful candidates notified

Chevening/Weidenfeld awards in 2012/13

The Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme is a UK based programme which provides scholarships to potential leaders and young professionals looking to study at the University of Oxford.  Successful scholars will undertake a one year Public Policy masters degree at the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford.

The FCO/Weidenfeld have agreed to jointly fund 5 awards and nationals from the following countries are eligible to apply: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Mongolia, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Yemen.
