Online information around climate change

Links to the UK’s Research Councils (autonomous, non-departmental public bodies) that ensure the UK has the skills and infrastructure and to produce world-leading research and innovative technologies for UK industry. The following Councils are involved in commissioning research on climate change.

Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
NERC funds research in the environmental sciences. It has a number of research programmes on climate change, and is a co-funder of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC)
ESRC supports social and economic research on climate change and the global environment.

Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
EPSRC funds research on the impact of climate change on the built environment, transport and utilities.

Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC)
BBSRC supports research on the impact of climate change on plants, animals, microbes and soil processes.

The Medical Research Council (MRC)
MRC are running a joint initiative with NERC, aimed at stimulating collaborative research into the human health impacts of climate change.

Research on climate change and the environment is also funded by UK government departments: the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (defra) and the Environment Agency.
