I would like to visit another country by myself, will the British Council - Youth in Action provide funding for my trip?
Youth in Action has funds to help with youth group exchanges, not individuals. If you are interested in a long-term volunteer work, please take a look at the Action 2 -European Voluntary Service.
I have been offered a chance to go to a youth summit in another European country, will the british council - youth in action cover my travel costs?
Under the criteria of the Action 1.1 - Youth Exchanges, Youth in Action can only provide funding for your travels if you are planning to go with a group and are meeting with another group there.
can the british council - youth in action get me a job in the uk?
Unfortunately, Youth in Action does not aid people in obtaining work visas or work placements for the UK.
Does the british council - youth in action provide scholarships or grants to foreign students wishing to study in the UK?
Youth in Action is not able to assist in funding study places for scholarships in British universities or colleges and neither can it recommend suitable institutions. We suggest you contact your own State Education Committee of the British Council office in your country for more information.

Action 1.1 - Youth Exchanges What is the age limit?
Young people must be between 13 and 25 years old on the day the exchange begins. Under exceptional circumstances (severely physically disabled or socially marginalised) exceptions may be made for up until the age of 30.

No, Youth Exchange must be in a non-formal learning situation. The idea of the exchange must have come from a group of young people who have already come together - not chosen by the teachers.

The European Commission has rules regarding which countries can receive funding for an exchange. By having two European Youth in Action programme Countries participate in a Partner Country exchange it ensures that there will be a European dimension to the project.

You must apply for a grant by the deadlines that are regulated by the European Commission. We are unable to fund exchanges that are organised outside of the European Youth in Action programme.

Yes, you cannot, for example, meet your German partners in Italy unless you are prepared to do a trilateral exchange and find an Italian partner.

An exchange does not need to be reciprocal but we recommended it.

Yes, we require a separate application for both sending and hosting exchanges.
Action 1.1 - Youth Exchanges are we automatically guaranteed funding for the second leg of our exchange?
No, you still need to apply in the normal way and with the help of some external assessors we will make a decision. It is also dependent on the funds available.

The sending organisation is responsible for preparing a young person to be a volunteer as well as working with the host organisation to ensure that the volunteer's placement is successful

While there are some short-term European Voluntary Service placements that take place between two weeks and two months, these projects are reserved for young people with fewer opportunities. If you think that you may be eligible, please contact us.
