On the eve of the Copenhagen Climate Conference 2009, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai gave a British Council lecture at the Royal Society of Arts, London. Her talk made clear how the precariousness of our resources will affect peace and security on a global scale.
BBC Radio One DJ Huw Stephens talks about OPENCities's Soundtrack for Cardiff
The British Council Soundtrack for Cardiff was open to everybody. Solo singers, rock bands, rap artists, choirs, individual musicians and instrumental groups all styles are welcome. Huw Stephens, Radio One DJ announced the winning track 'City of Change', by Joseph Evans, which successfully reflected the vibrant character and diversity of the Welsh capital.

During October 2009, as part of the programme 'UK China 400' organised by the British Council and the All-China Youth Federation, a delegation of 21 future leaders in the creative industries in China visited Wales for a series of meetings and visits on the theme of Creativity and Cultural innovation.

British Council Wales employees were joined performing tai chi outside their new office by school children from Oakfield Primary school, dancers for National Dance Company Wales and passers by at 0800hrs on 16 September 2009.
OPENcities Faces Exhibition | Gareth Phillips | Cardiff
Eight photographers, rising stars in their own cities were recruited by the British Council to examine the idea of openness in their cities. The resulting exhibition launched in September 2009 and then toured numerous cities.

For two weeks between 27 March and 9 April 2009, the British Council brought more than sixty outstanding designers, planners, artists, architects and engineers from Australia, China, India, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Vietnam, and Cardiff to Wales to work on a live design brief in an intensive two-week studio in Cardiff.
