Pupils help twin school in China
A primary school has raised over £500 to help victims of the earthquake in China.

The 222-pupil Ysgol Llanllechid school near Bangor is twinned with a 1,500-pupil school in Chongqing city.

There were no injuries at the partner school, but buildings in the city did collapse and there were fatalities.

Andrew Lui from the North Wales Chinese Association said the money would help a lot of children in China.
"The older children have been following the story from day to day," said the school's headmistress Gwenan Davies-Jones.
"They are very interested and full of sympathy," she added.

The whole day was spent on China-inspired projects

Our office in Chongqing city, has confirmed that there were no injuries at their partner school, but even so pupils at Llanllechid have been concerned because there had not been any email contact with the pupils in China since the earthquake on Monday, she said.
Chair of the school council, Gwynfor Rowlinson, 11, said: "My pen-pal's name is Bing Xiang and he likes swimming and badminton.
"We are hopeful that our friends are safe but it's still terrible what has happened all around them, especially if they have family in the countryside. "We really want to help out," he added.

Andrew Lui from the North Wales Chinese Association said he was delighted to be invited to the school's China Day to receive the cheque to be passed on to the Red Cross Society of China.
The money raised in Llanllechid would go a long way to help children affected by the earthquake, he added. He praised the link between the two schools.

"The world is getting smaller and everyone should try to understand each other and break down the barriers," he said.

"For a new generation it is good to learn about another culture and language to help the co-operation with each other."
