Teachers and pupils from Ysgol Llanllechid in North Wales are starring in a new film alongside poet and novelist Benjamin Zephaniah, as part of their involvement in an education initiative to widen young people’s knowledge of development issues.
The film, which was launched last month, will be distributed to schools around the world and focuses on Llanllechid’s six year long partnership with Mavisville Preparatory School in Jamaica. Ysgol Llanllechid was selected from more than 2,500 schools involved in the programme across the UK to star in the film, which aims to inspire and help more schools around the world to develop similar links.
Zephaniah wrote and performed a poem entitled ‘We go Global’ for the film and has shown his support for the work that Ysgol Llanllechid and the other schools featured are doing. Zephaniah said: “Global School Partnerships can break down barriers and build links from nation to nation, helping to create communication and connections and a more positive future for young people. We can’t let big business hijack the word globalisation – partnerships like these are what globalisation is really about.”
