LIPD Case Study
Dr Shyam Patiar, Director of Skills Development at Coleg Llandrillo undertook a visit to SAIT Polytechnic, Calgary, Canada

The partner institution is one of the leading post-secondary educational organisation in the County of South Alberta, Canada which was also acting as one of the founder sponsor for the World Skills 2009 competitions in Calgary. The institute also hosted all the competitors during their visit to Canada and provided the technical support for the variety of vocational competitions.

The introductory contact was initially obtained through the PIN (Post Secondary Educational Institution International Network) organisation to which Coleg Llandrillo and SAIT are already members. This membership of PIN organisation accelerated access to communicate with the President, Vice President and Dean of Faculties of SAIT Polytechnic.

The key purpose of this visit was to study the Vocational Education and Training System in Canada with specific reference to Hospitality & Tourism and Construction & Technology.

The visit was a great success as the desired aims and objectives were clearly achieved. I feel that there is a great synergy between the two institutions which can be harnessed as both the institutions greatly believe in the notion of EXCELLENCE and promoting internationalisation of their college.

It was encouraging to see the Pedagogy skills adopted and applied by Academic Professionals which were based on collaborative methods of teaching rather than the didactic methods. In addition, the frequent use of e-leaning technology in the classrooms and practical laboratories.

I think LIPD is a brilliant programme to provide academic professionals an experience of a lifetime in a different educational, social and cultural context.
