Building Capacity Among Youth Organisations

WHAT IS DEBATE TO ACTION?

Debate to Action is based around international and national development aimed at young leaders from youth organisations. It is currently running in Africa and the UK and provides opportunities for implementing the Millennium Development Goals within the community. It also offers skills building, interaction and Intercultural Dialogue between Africa and the UK.

Participants learn about international and national frameworks for development -including the UN's Call to Action on the Millennium Development Goals-, their own roles within these frameworks and how to share information effectively with other young people as well as making an impact in their communities. DTA is a youth-empowerment programme through participation encouraging Active Global Citizenship whilst creating opportunities for interaction and Intercultural Dialogue.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The programme is open to young people (aged 18–30) from youth organisations who are interested in development issues, are available and committed to training other young people. Individuals are to be nominated by youth organisations. The parts of the United Kingdom which will be involved in the UK DTA 08/09 roll out are North West Region (England), Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please note that in England the age range will be 18–25

WHAT DOES IT INVOLVE?

During this ten-month programme participants will receive training in key development issues and create their own training programmes and/or community projects. There will be opportunities for Intercultural Dialogue between Africa and the UK through on line debate and video- conferencing as well as other forms of interaction and exchange. Monitoring and Evaluation will also be a key component.
