INDIE means Inclusion and Diversity in Education and is a project led by the British Council in collaboration with local and regional education authorities across nine European countries: Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The term inclusion began as a policy to ensure that all children regardless of ability become part of their school community. Now it goes beyond to include ALL children, no matter what makes them different (disability, race, origin, sex, style…). Inclusion goes hand in hand with diversity because we are all different and we all want to be included in school and society no matter our differences! So let’s celebrate diversity!
The INDIE project began in 2007 with a series of activities that allowed schools and students to progress one step at a time. These activities led to further activities.
In Wales, four schools have been participating in the INDIE project with the support of Cardiff Local Authority since 2007:
•Cathays High School
•Fitzalan High School
•Willows High School
•Cardiff High
The above schools are working with Arnhem in Holland and Stuttgart in Germany. Those schools can be viewed here
Use your mobile phone camera to make a 3-minute film about ‘diversity’ and you could win a brand new Sony video camera.
