LIPD FAQ
LIPD Frequently Asked Questions

WHERE CAN I GO? HOW LONG FOR?
You can travel anywhere in the world although when numbers of applications are high priority will be given to certain countries (these are listed in the handbook). Trips are classified as short haul (flight time less than four hours) or long haul (flight time more than four hours). On short haul trips, a minimum of three days must be spent in the partner institution. On long haul trips the minimum is five days.

HOW WILL PARTICIPANTS AND THEIR COLLEGES BENEFIT?
Lecturer's International Professional Development (LIPD) is a valuable opportunity to bring Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC) into your college and establish an ongoing partnership with a similar institution overseas. You will benefit by adding international work to your skills and experiences, or building upon what you have already done. Your college will benefit from the chance to strengthen an existing partnership or establish a brand new one which can be drawn upon in many aspects of teaching and learning such as ESDGC and multicultural interaction.

DO I NEED TO BE ABLE TO SPEAK THE LANGUAGE OF THE HOST COUNTRY?
This is not necessary as long as your partner speaks English and you can communicate effectively.

WHO DOES WHAT?
We arrange your flights and accommodation, you must organise your travel in the UK and any travel in your destination country. You must also establish contact with a partner institution if you do not already have one, and communicate clearly with them about the purpose of the visit and what your aims and objectives are.

WHICH COSTS ARE COVERED AND WHICH ARE NOT?
We will cover the cost of international flights, accommodation, meals and subsistence. This is calculated based on British Council staff travel rates for each country. Meals and subsistence are paid on your return and submission of a satisfactory post visit report. The cost of domestic travel in either country is not covered.

WHAT ABOUT INSURANCE?
We have a comprehensive insurance policy to cover you while you travel.

CAN I EXTEND MY VISIT IN ORDER TO SEE FRIENDS OR TAKE A HOLIDAY?
You may extend your visit as long as the minimum time is spent in the partner institution and all aims and objectives are fulfilled. We will not cover the cost of any additional accommodation, meals or subsistence.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE VISIT?
On your return we ask that you submit a post visit report about your experiences and what you achieved on your trip. Your meals and subsistence money will be paid on receipt of this document. We ask that you disseminate information about your trip and the benefits to your colleagues, by a newsletter or email and presentation. Six months later we ask for a follow up report on the long term benefits of the trip and what you and your college have gained from it. We may also ask you to take part in an event at a college or conference to disseminate information about LIPD to a wider audience.
