London 2012 in Vietnam

100 day living clock countdown

On 18 April 2012 we started our 100 Day Living Clock Countdown in Ho Chi Minh City. Everyday between then and the 27 July - the start of the London 2012 Olympics - one of our staff, partners or customers unveiled a new number. You can also find the pictures on our Facebook English page be sure to “like” the page so you can add your own support, comments and “likes”. 'Countdown to London 2012' quiz

The British Embassy, the British Council and VTV launched the‘Countdown to London 2012’ quiz opened to all Vietnamese audiences on 18 April 2012 to coincide with 100 days to the opening the Games. Over 14 weeks, the quiz website has received nearly 10,000 visits and 4,620 entries. The overall winner of the quiz selected randomly by the British Ambassador to Vietnam to win a full scholarship for an English course at the British Council teaching centre.

London 2012 NOW Photo Competition

Two weeks to the 2012 London Summer Olympics, the British Council Vietnam launched the London 2012 NOW Photo Competition. The competition was open for everyone currently residing in Vietnam and every Vietnamese citizen who is living or studying overseas. The London 2012 NOW photo competition creates opportunities for participants to share their unique moments as well as their diverse creativity. The competition also celebrates the natural beauty of Vietnam through the photos taken by the participants.

Warm Up for the Games

For schools in UK and around the world who are interested in doing projects around the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we have created a ‘Warm up for the Games’ section on our Schools Online website. There are project ideas and activities for you to use in your classroom or with your partner school.  If you don’t have a partner school, find out how to Twin for 2012!



TeachEnglish for the Games

For free teaching resources we have created ‘English for the Games’ on our Teaching English website. There are lesson plans and activities at different language proficiency levels on themes such as the Olympic and Paralympic sports and values. Each week we will add a new resource.



LearnEnglish for the Games

For free learner resources have a look at the ‘English for the Games’ materials on our Learning English website. Learners can practise their English as they learn about the London 2012 Games, watch videos, read articles, and do interactive exercises. Each week we will add a new resource.



Schools from around the World: The London 2012 International Education Programme

The London 2012 Education Team is offering new and unique learning resources for schools from around the world through the London 2012 International Education programme.  These resources provide information and activity ideas about topics including: preparations for the London 2012 Games; the sports and venues of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games; the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the UK; and, the London 2012 mascots.

These resources are available in two levels of English.
