HOW TO REGISTER
You can apply for IELTS by
Online Registration
- Check and select a test dates
- Register your personal details and pay by credit card
In person
You should follow these 5 simple steps to register for IELTS:
- Contact us to check the availability of the IELTS test dates of your choice
- Complete an Application Form (obtained from the British Council Test Centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city or downloaded from www.ielts.org)
- Provide two recent passport–size photographs (taken within 6 months before the date of registration. You must not wear glasses in your photographs)
- Provide a photocopy of your ID card/Passport
- Make payment in Vietnam Dong only
You must complete each step in this process in order. Your IELTS registration will not be confirmed until you have finished all 5 steps. For further information, please contact us in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city.
By post
You can apply off-site:
- Contact us to check the availability of the IELTS test dates of your choice
- Download an application form.
- Fill out the application form
- Enclose 2 passport-size photos (taken within 6 months without eye glasses)
- Enclose a photocopy of your National ID card/Passport (no notarization required)
- Send to the British Council (address below). We advise candidates to use express services in order to avoid late delivery or documents going missing.
6a.In Hanoi:
The Receiver should be Ms Nguyen Phuong Ngoc, Exams Services Executive, British Council, 20 Thuy Khue, Tay Ho, Hanoi.
The test fee of VND 3,200,000 can be made by bank transfer to this account:

We will send you the confirmation letter with your test details once we receive your application documents and test fee.
Special needs
If you have a disability or condition which might require special arrangements, you should discuss it with us as soon as possible. Each case is considered individually and you will need a medical certificate. We need three months to put arrangements into place. If you are booking online, make this clear in your application. Deferments/Cancellations
Deferments
Notification for deferring the test date must be given in writing on the form provided. Deferment can only be accepted once. Fully filled deferment form must be received by British Council staff by 1700 on Friday two weeks before a Saturday test and by 1700 on Wednesday two weeks before a Thursday test.
Cancellations
There are no cancellations. In exceptional cases such as serious illness on the test date where medical evidence (e.g. medical certificate from a state hospital with the hospital stamp) is required, cancellations can then be considered. Medical evidence must be submitted within five working days after the written test date. When cancellation is accepted, you will only receive a refund of 75% of the test fee.
