Cambridge Young Learner English Test
WHY SHOULD MY CHILD DO THIS EXAM?

The Cambridge Young Learner English test helps increase motivation and confidence through a strong sense of achievement.

The tests measure how much your child has learned without a pass or fail, and every child is rewarded with a certificate at the end. As a parent, the result gives you valuable information about how well your child is progressing.

The tests are of the same high standards as Cambridge exams for adults, but are enjoyable and have colourful pictures and child-friendly topics.

Your child’s teacher will follow an appropriate syllabus and teach to required standards.

Exams are a reality of life. Give your child this gentle introduction, you can prepare them for future educational challenges.

WHAT THE TESTS INVOLVE?

Each test has three components:

  • reading and writing (40 to 60 minutes, depending on level)
  • listening (40 to 60 minutes, depending on level)
  • speaking (5 to 10 minutes)

If possible, children are tested in their own classrooms. Examiners are all experienced teachers with special training in testing children.  You can get more information about the exam format and sample question papers from www.CambridgeEsol.org

GETTING THE RESULTS

All written papers are sent to Cambridge to be marked and results are released about eight weeks after the exam date. They will first be sent to the British Council and we will then forward them to your home address.

Every candidate who attempts all three components will receive a certificate showing marks out of five for each component.
