CALUM NICOLSON
I did my Celta at the end of 1998 and got my first job at IH Wroclaw in Poland in early 1999. After 2 and half years in Poland I returned to my native Edinburgh to seek further employment. Surprisingly, that employment came in the form of playing in punk band around Europe. In 2004 I moved to the sunny climes of Birmingham to do my PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education. While there, I taught ESOL to refugees and asylum seekers from all over the world. Having completed my PGCE, I returned to Edinburgh and worked as a project co-ordinator for a city-wide literacy partnership. I taught literacy skills to recovering substance abusers and homeless kids as well as holding regular classes at the Edinburgh Refugee Centre. Some of the most rewarding work I’ve had the pleasure of doing. Finding it increasingly difficult to balance the demands of such a job as well the ever-punishing tour schedule of the band, I decided to move again, this time to Vietnam. I joined the BC here in August 2007 and will do the DELTA here in September.
