Our Teaching Centre in Ho Chi Minh City has launched its British Council Reading Challenge for primary and secondary students currently studying at the British Council. The Reading Challenge is part of a UK Reading Agency initiative and happens annually throughout the UK and at British Councils around the world and is aimed at promoting reading to children and teenagers in a fun and motivating way.
This year the theme is ‘Space Hop’ and the Young Learner Corner Library has got a range of new books based around the topic of space.
Why Space Hop?
Space Hop taps into children's fascination with space travel and bizarre alien worlds. It's an imaginative and fun way to encourage children to read. They'll also get a wider understanding about the solar system too.
Space Hop will take childrens' imagination to the Moon – and back! Whether they’re already hooked on books, or just beginning to read, it’s a sure-fire way to get kids into reading.
How can children sign up?
Children will register their participation in the ‘Space Hop’ after which they will receive a pencil, a membership card and a poster. Children have until Sunday 24 April 2011 to read six books from the Young Learner Corner Library in order to fill in their poster and complete the challenge. Upon completion of the challenge, students receive a certificate.
The Teaching Centre will also be holding other events in association with ‘Space Hop’ including a book review competition for senior children and story telling and a class ‘design a planet’ competition for primary students.
