British Council IBD Team
New! English for Grade 1
© Mat Wright           © Mat Wright

The British Council now offers a special English programme for grade 1 students!

What is the course about?

The course is based around modern authentic British literature and songs for children.  Each lesson students will discover a story or song in English, and practise their skills by

a) reading the story or song

b) listening to the teacher tell the story or song

c) speaking about the story or song and the things in it

d) writing about some of the sounds and words in the story or song

The course will combine the stories with course books, games, phonics and other activities

How can it help my child?

Children will develop the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing by involvement in the activities in the lesson. They will learn the vocabulary and grammar that supports these skills and we will also introduce the children to phonics, so children can learn to read, write, speak, listen and improve their pronunciation more quickly than with traditional methods

How long is the course?

The course runs all year. The course has been written with the particular needs of grade 1 students in mind, allowing them to enter the course at the beginning of our terms in September, January and June.

Each lesson is two hours, with a short break in the middle.

How will you measure your child’s progress?

As a communicative course, based on real English skills, your child will gain the confidence to function in an English speaking environment.  Children will speak and write English in their lessons, which will show their development in understanding and communication.

What level of English does my child need?

Each lesson is specially designed to allow students of differing levels of English to work together and make progress. Any grade 1 student who is beginning to learn English is welcome to join our classes.

When can I register my child for the course?

The course will start in the summer between 9 June – 3 August 2011. Please contact our customer services staff at (04) 37281922 or send an email to bchanoi@britishcouncil.org.vn for information about how to book a place on a course.
