ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS  - COURSEs level

PRE INTERMEDIATE

On completion of this level you will be able to:

communicate on a variety of busines-related topics
make small business talk
use a wide range of business-related phrases and expressions
give a short presentation on your company
take part in meetings and discussions
and write memos, e-mails and sales letters.

Topics discussed at this level include career moves, online shopping, stress management, corporate entertaining, marketing, cultural differences in management style, handling conflict, and product description.

Skills focussed on include telephoning, dealing with numbers, requests and offers, basic negotiating, making recommendations, and writing short reports.

There is language work on present, past and future tenses, expressing obligation, question forms and the passive.

INTERMEDIATE

On completion of this level you will be able to:

participate competently and independently in discussions on a variety of current business issues
talk about your job and the structure of your company
describe trends
handle telephone calls
give a presentation
take part in meetings and negotiations
provide solutions to problems and produce accurate memos and letters.

Topics discussed at this level include globalisation, branding, advertising & promotion, free trade & investment, change management; the ethics of business, and a wide range of business-specific vocabulary.

Skills focussed on include making travel arrangements, the language and strategies needed for meetings, making decisions and providing solutions.

There is language work on tense review, reported speech, prepositions and formality, and writing practice will include memos, letters of complaints and minuting meetings.

UPPER INTERMEDIATE

On completion of this level you will be able to:

participate confidently and fluently in discussions in most areas related to business
actively take part in meetings and negotiations
argue your point clearly and coherently and write accurate e-mails, sales letters and reports.

Topics discussed at this level include communications, international marketing, risk management, teambuilding skills, customer care, mergers and acquisitions; job satisfaction and management.

Skills focussed on include the finer points of negotiating, handling difficult situations, reaching a consensus and handling complaints.

Vocabulary is built up through the study of areas like noun compounds, idioms, affixation and synonyms, and there is some work on more complex grammar such as passives, conditionals and modality.
