Activities for Young Learners

The Reading Challenge

Some 200 HCMC Primary and Secondary students are now taking part in the British Council and Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge which promotes reading to children throughout Britain and the world. After registering and receiving a membership card, students need to read six books split into three stages over the next six weeks to complete the challenge.  After each stage the students receive a ‘scratch and sniff’ sticker set to put on the 3D stage.  After reading six books the students will receive a certificate.  Students will also have the opportunity to take part in the Reading Challenge book review competition and win fantastic prizes.

Languages for the Games competition

Students at British Council now have a great opportunity to enter a British Council Languages for the Games competition to win a trip to the UK.

Students can enter as a class or individually. The 8 – 11 year olds will create a project called "He's a hero / She's a heroine" and 12 – 16 year olds will design a ‘My perfect Paralympics Poster’. Teachers have promoted the competition during lessons.

The competition is an opportunity for students to show their creativity in a second language while carrying out a task about Paralympic sports and values.
