Early 8 April 2010, at Hanoi University of languages and International Studies, 1 Pham Van Dong Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, the signing ceremony on establishing the Authorised IELTS delivery centre in light of the cooperation between University of international languages and Studies and British Council Vietnam took place in the presence of representatives of both parties. This has been the first centre of British Council ever in Universities of Vietnam.
Representatives of the British Council were Madam Alison Ball – Director Ho Chi Minh City, Country Examinations Manager, Mr. Le Xuan Binh – IELTS Business Development Manager in Vietnam, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa – Assistant Director, Country Examinations Manager and Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao – Examinations Services Manager in Hanoi while Hanoi University of languages and International Studies, VNU saw Professor Nguyen Hoa – President, Ph.D. Do Tuan Minh - Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Kim Long – Vice Director Academic Affairs Department of VNU. Of course, the media was also seen at the signing ceremony.
According to the agreement, HNU - VNU is the authorised IELTS centre established under the approval of the British Council with such major activities like organizing IELTS tests and help students taking IELTS at HNU - VNU .
Especially, HNU – VNU becomes the Authorised IELTS centre in Hanoi and the centre will be located at one of the campuses of VNU and when in operation, the centre will offer opportunities for students to approach a new English learning environment of international standards. Thanks to the popularity and usefulness of IELTS, Vietnamese students will have more chances to integrate deeply into international education. By organizing IELTS Methodology workshops for teachers, teachers will have favourable conditions to improve their teaching skills so that they can offer their students the best of them. The move once again emphasizes the commitment to improving the quality of teaching and learning to match international education standards.
After the signing ceremony, Madam Alison Ball said ‘We are delighted to be partnering with the University of Languages and International Study on this venture. IELTS is the biggest and fastest growing global International English Examination. It is a practical exam, which will help students of ULIS to develop skills which are useful for both study and life. Mr Hoa, Rector ULIS, has a long history with the IELTS examination; as a student in Australia in 1990, he was involved in piloting the exam and he therefore has personal experience of the quality and reliability of the test. We are looking forward to the first examination session at ULIS and to a long and fruitful collaboration with ULIS’.
