LEARNER SUPPORT

At the British Council we would like to help you to maximise your learning potential in English and help you to become an effective language learner. To learn English well, your teacher, your course and your course book are important, but the most important person is you.

Learning Lounge

Borrow books and DVDs from the Learning Lounge to give you extra practice, or watch English movies at home or in the cinema. There are many excellent resources on the internet. The British Council has its own websites and other products and services to help you to learn English more quickly in a fun and motivating way.

Learn English

Visit LearnEnglish which provides fun English language practice for people of all ages. There are LearnEnglish sites for Kids, Adults and Professionals.

LearnEnglish Podcasts

LearnEnglish Podcasts are a way for you to practise your English language listening skills. You can listen on your computer, or download to your mp3 player. We've got something for everyone, from kids to adults and from elementary to advanced level learners. They are free, and if you subscribe we will send them to you every month. Second Life for Teens

Do you want to learn English and visit the UK for free? Now you can, virtually. The British Council has created a learning zone for both group and independent learners in the Second Life virtual environment. Interactive LearnEnglish activities and quests based on UK culture are available for all Second Life residents.

Premier Skills

Welcome to the home of Premier Skills – your chance to communicate in two of the world’s global languages – English and football.

Practise Your Pronunciation CD

This self-study pronunciation programme has been specially designed for Thai learners and is sold exclusively at the British Council, Thailand.

Road to IELTS CD-Rom

The British Council's new Road to IELTS CD-Rom is a huge resource. It includes at least 120 hours of learning materials, provides comprehensive preparation and practice in every aspect of each of the four modules of the IELTS exam. Buy a copy from your nearest British Council branch.

IELTS Specimen Materials

It's so much easier for candidates to do well in an exam if they know exactly what to expect. This useful book and accompanying CD provides you with authentic practice materials to help you to prepare for the exam. It is available to buy only from the British Council.
