The TEACHING KNOWLEDGE TEST (TKT) is an examination that shows essential understanding of different areas of specialisation in the English teaching field. As another high quality product from cambridge University, it has widespread international recognition and is ideal for all teachers, whatever their background and teaching experience.
TKT is ideal for all teachers, whatever your background and teaching experience, and is also suitable for people who would like to teach English but do not yet have a teaching position. It may be taken by:
- trainee teachers who are getting reading to teach English for the first time or who have recently begun in the profession
- teachers who wish to refresh their teaching knowledge
- teachers who are moving to teaching English after teaching another subject
TKT has three core modules. These modules can all be taken together at the same time, or separately, in any order, over a period of time. For each module there is a test of 80 questions which lasts 80 minutes.
Module 1 — Language and background to language learning and teaching:
- describing language and language skills
- background to language learning
- background to language teaching
Module 2 — Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching:
- planning and preparing a lesson or sequence of lessons
- selection and use of resources and materials.
Module 3 — Managing the teaching and learning process:
- teachers' and learners' language in the classroom
- classroom management.
