TeachingEnglish: recommended by the UN and 175,000 Facebook 'likes'

Following the record of 4.8 million unique visitors in 2012/13, there is more good news about the Teaching English website: it has been included in a list of recommended resources for teachers in the United Nations English Language Programme.

The TeachingEnglish Facebook page recently reached 175,000 likes and used the opportunity to ask its users why they like the page. One user said: 'it makes us teachers think outside the box, it inspires...we collaborate on ideas, we network, it's great!', while another stated that 'this page is as an oxygen in my life. I cannot ignore it in my research and it is indispensable.'

In June 2013 the British Council in partnership with the Ministry of Public Education, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialised Education, the Centre for Secondary Specialised Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Youth Employment Centre under the "Kelajak Ovozi" Youth Initiative Centre organised a number of events with the title of "Skills for New Generation". The programme contributed to the implementation of national reforms in education and English language practice in the country.

Within this month the following events were held:
- June 8-14 "A new curriculum for trainee teachers of English"
- June 13-18 Workshop for "English for tourism" material writers
- June 18 Round table discussion on "Skills for tourism sector"
- June 18-19 Workshop for the project team on "Development of curricula and syllabi for the tourism sector"
- June 19-20 Conference on "Early English language learning"
